Instructor:

Growing up in the high desert of Colorado, Lori knew from an early age that she wanted to be two things; a cowboy and an artist. She spent her childhood on the family ranch, horseback more than she was afoot, reveling in the beauty of the land and the freedom of childhood while learning responsibility and solid work ethic. From an early age, she had a pencil in her hands, striving to capture the life she loved on paper.  It wasn’t until she moved to Kansas and met a Texas cowboy that she was able to concentrate fully on her work. With their children grown, David encouraged her to create art full time.   Self-taught, she enjoys the beauty of color, but the versatility and stark contrasts created by graphite remain her medium of choice.

Lori has exhibited in several shows in recent years, including the Small Works Great Wonders at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in OKC, the Mountain Oyster Show in Tucson, the Bosque Classic and the Western Spirit Show.  At The Cowgirl Gathering in 2023, Lori was awarded People’s Choice and the APA Purchaser’s Award. At Cowboy True, she was named Champion in Drawing and won the Poster Contest for the 2023 Meeker Classic.

Lori has shown at the Phippen Museum, American Plains Artists Shows, Cheyenne Frontier Days, Granbury Art Association, New Frontiers and Red River Valley Shows.

Lori’s art is unique in that her subject matter is just that. Hers. Her drawings depict her own life and lifestyle, the ups and downs of ranch life and the beauty in the everyday that most don’t get to experience. This lends an unspoken authenticity to Lori’s work and speaks to the viewer with a genuine voice.

Lori enjoys teaching drawing workshops, helping others discover a love of line and light, and continues to ranch in Southern Kansas.
